Offered is a 1988-1989 Nick Anderson Final Four Most Valuable Player trophy presented to the then-junior basketball player by the University of Illinois at their annual end-of-season awards banquet. The overall 5 x 12 x 22½-inch wood and metal trophy is topped by a 6-inch gold plastic figure of a basketball player on an 8-inch gold plastic trophy cup, which is mounted on a 5 x 8-inch black and brown woodgrain plastic base. That base features a 3 x 6 ¼ -inch gold metal plaque engraved with the legend “University of Illinois Final Four 31-5 88 89 MVP Nick Anderson”. The base portion with the plaque is mounted by a 2 x 3-inch brown woodgrain plastic column to the bottom base. Please note that this portion of the trophy is loosely attached to the upper trophy elements. The 5 x 12-inch brown and black woodgrain plastic base has a pair of “Eagle” figures in gold plastic at the bottom left and right. The University of Illinois men’s basketball team advanced to the Final Four of the 1989 NCAA Basketball Championship, losing to eventual National Champion Michigan, 83-81 at the Kingdome in Seattle, Washington. The Fighting Illini finished with a 31-5 overall record, while Anderson was selected by his teammates and coaches as the season’s MVP.
