Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst began his career in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization in 1942 and is now the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame. Schoendienst has served in many capacities with the Cardinals and in 1989 and 1990, he was the Bench Coach for St. Louis under manager Whitey Herzog and took over as manager in 1990 when Herzog resigned. Schoendienst managed 24 games for the red birds until Joe Torre was hired.

This offered road gray size 48 Rawlings St. Louis Cardinals pullover jersey was worn by Schoendienst during the 1989 and 1990 season. This jersey has the classic “Cardinals” scripted across the chest in red and navy blue chenille stitching, with the iconic two cardinals perched on each end of a golden bat – all with chenille stitching. Schoendienst’s number “2” is sewn on the left center chest in red and navy blue tackle twill. The collar and sleeve ends are striped in navy blue, white and red in a ribbed material. The Rawlings tag with a “SET 1 1989” flag are attached on the inside lower front left tail. The left sleeve has matching gray patch with “AAB JR” in black, in honor of Team President August Anheuser Busch, Jr, who died on September 29, 1989. The Cardinals wore this patch for the entire 1990 season. The back of the jersey has “SCHOENDIENST” sewn on in red and navy blue tackle twill on a matching gray name plate above the number “2”, which is sewn on in the same red and navy blue tackle twill. This jersey displays moderate wear and comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature.
