At the height of the Auburn Tigers’ run of three consecutive SEC championships the 1989 Tigers hosted the Iron Bowl vs. Alabama for the first time in history turning back the Crimson Tide 30-20 in what is generally regarded as the greatest victory in the school’s football program history. Auburn continued on to defeat Ohio State in the Hall of Fame Bowl, finishing the season with a 10-2 record ranking 6th in the country in both major polls. This size-10, 27-gram Josten QGT ring was presented to Auburn quarterback Reggie Slack who threw for 2,137 yards on the season completing nearly 60-percent of his passes and connected for 14 touchdowns. Slack connected on three big passing plays in the Iron Bowl SEC Championship game throwing for a total of 274 yards. Slack’s name is in raised relief on the right shank of the ring above an asterisk star in circle pattern listing Auburn’s opponents during the season with the “AU-30-UA-20” score of the game engraved at the bottom on the shank. “Auburn” is in raised relief on the left shank above the school’s Tiger mascot superimposed over a sculpted relief of Jordan Hare Stadium with the team’s 10-2 record engraved at the bottom of the shank. “Southeastern Conference” and “1989” are engraved along the perimeter of the ring’s face which contains a football with three cubic zirconias stones embedded in a blue gem stone. Ring is contained in its original jeweler’s box and comes with LOA signed by Steven Mitnick.
