Hall of Fame centerfielder ken Griffey Jr. wore this blue Seattle Mariners cap in 1989, his rookie season. Drafted first overall in the 1987 MLB June Amateur Draft, Griffey’s rookie season was one of the most anticipated events in Seattle sporting history. The 19-year-old did not disappoint, putting up an impressive Triple Crown slash line of .264/16/61 with 16 steals in 127 games. Over the next 21 seasons, Griffey put together one of the most impressive careers in MLB history, launching 630 home runs and driving in 1,836 runs. In 2016, Griffey was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, appearing on a record 99.3% (437 of 440) of all ballots.
This blue cap has a yellow “S” logo embroidered on the front. MLB Diamond Collection and New Era tags are sewn in the headband, which also features a size 7 1/8 flag. Griffey’s number “24” is written on the underside of the brim in blue marker. “The Kid” has signed his name on the underside of the brim in black marker. This cap shows light to moderate wear. A LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A82802) covers Griffey’s signature, while a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema authenticates the use.
