Cal Ripken Jr. began the 1991 MLB campaign in this cap, donning the classic headwear for Baltimore’s Opening Day tilt against the Chicago White Sox at Memorial Stadium on April 8th, 1991. Ripken went 1-4 with a run scored on Opening Day, with the Orioles falling to the White Sox in a 9-1 decision. Ripken turned in a historic campaign in 1991, winning the American League Most Valuable Player trophy for the second time in his career, finishing the season with a .323 batting average and career-highs in homers (34), RBI (114), total bases (368), and stolen bases (6).
This offered cap is black, with an Orioles logo sewn on the cap’s front. Handwritten in black marker on the underside of the brim is Ripken’s number “8” and “1991 - Opening Day.” Tags sewn on the sweatband include a Diamond Collection tag, a New Era tag, and a size 7 ? tag. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal accompanying this game used hat.
