Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. led the Baltimore Orioles to an 85-77 record in 1993 as he led the American League with 641 at-bats and finished the season with a .257 batting average, 24 home runs and 90 RBI. It was the second season for Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which has become the inspiration for many of the new ballparks that have opened in the last 20 years. Camden Yards hosted the 1993 All-Star game and Ripken continued his pursuit of Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games played streak. Coming directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. this presented batting helmet was worn by Ripken for pre-game use during the 1993 season. This helmet displays excellent pre-game wear and was constructed of high impact plastic. This all-black helmet features the Orioles “oriole” logo decal on the front with Ripken’s number “8” affixed to the top brim with an orange decal. This helmet is a size 7 3/8 and was manufactured by American Baseball Cap Co. (ABC). There is a gray pad along the inside headband and a circle pad on the top of the inside top, both of which are still intact. There are three stickers on the interior, including an Authentic Diamond Collection sticker, an ABC size 7 3/8 sticker and a “WARNING” sticker. The back of the helmet has the ABC logo and MLB logo on the same decal. This helmet comes with a signed LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. and a LOA from J.T. Sports (1479) for the pre-game use. Additionally, there is a LOA from Elite Sports Photo Matching (0067), who have matched this helmet to a pre-game photo from the May 1st, 1993 game.
