Hall of Famer Derek Jeter spent the 1993 season as a member of the Single A Greensboro Hornets of the South Atlantic League. This was Jeter’s second year, but his first full season as a pro, after being drafted in the first round out of Kalamazoo Central High School in 1992. Jeter began to show why he was selected in the first round as he finished the 1993 season with a .295 average, 5 home runs and 71 RBI in 128 games. Jeter led the Hornets to the North Division title with an 85-56 record, while advancing to the SAL Finals before falling to the Savanah Cardinals 3-2 in the Championship Series.
Offered here is the earliest known professional jersey worn by Derek Jeter! This size 46 Wilson jersey was worn by a young Derek Jeter during the 1993 season in Greensboro. This road gray button-down jersey has “GREENSBORO” sewn on across the front in navy and white tackle twill. The sleeve ends have navy/white/navy stripes in an expandable ribbed material. The inner placket has been lined with an off-white soft material for player comfort. The back of the jersey has Jeter’s minor league number “31” sewn on in navy and white tackle twill. The Wilson tag is sewn on the inside back collar. This jersey displays outstanding game use with noticeable wear and stains. Currently, this is the earliest Derek Jeter game used jersey to reach public sale.
