Among more than 15,400 copies recorded in BGS's census reporting, fewer than two percent have attained the superlative level of this card, and not a single example has achieved a higher tier. Derek Jeter's stellar baseball credentials and undeniable charisma, as well as his rookie card's condition sensitivity, have combined to ensure that whenever this collectible in Gem Mint state changes hands, the transaction is a sensational, news-making event. The item's meteoric rise in market price continues unabated: a PSA GEM MT 10 copy fetched $180,000 in early January, 2020, setting yet another record. Previously, two PSA GEM MT 10 examples sold at auction in December of 2019, one for $138,000 and another for $168,000. (Prior to those results, the most recent sale was for $73,000 in Fall, 2018.)
