Presented here is the 1994 NFC Defensive Lineman of the Year Award, presented to Reggie White as a part of the National Football League Players Association annual Mackey Awards. Named for Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey, the first president of the NFLPA, the Mackey Awards honored football’s best and brightest players each season. White, universally regarded as one of the best defensive players in football history, was his typical excellent self in 1994, notching eight of his 198 career sacks and forcing two fumbles despite being on the wrong side of 30 years old. White would go on to play five more seasons after 1994, and was inducted posthumously into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
This award measures 14 inches high, and stands on a cylindrical pedestal. The statuette itself is a 9 ½ inch tall silver football player, his helmet tucked underneath his right arm. A plaque is attached to the pedestal that reads “Reggie White / Green Bay Packers / NFC Defensive Lineman of the Year / 1994 Mackey Award / National Football League Players Association”. This item comes with a LOA from Sara White.
