Encapsulated and graded GEM MINT 9.5 by BGS. Presented here is a 1996 Japanese Base Set Venusaur Holofoil card with no rarity symbol. This card marks the debut appearance of Venusaur in any TCG set, making it valuable and rare as it is also out of print. The Base set was released in Japan in 1996, after the success of the Pokémon Gameboy games. This card was one of the earliest printed Pokémon cards, given that it has no rarity symbol, despite the fact that it is a Rare Holographic Base Set card. It is said that the "no rarity" cards were only printed for approximately three months (until December 1996), making them exceedingly hard-to-find. The mighty Venusaur, final evolution of Grass/Poison-type Pokémon Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, was the game mascot for both the Pokémon Green and LeafGreen games. The artwork featured on the card is by Mitsuhiro Arita, one of the legends of Pokémon illustration, set against a green holographic foil background. This rare Japanese Venusaur Holofoil card in such a premium state would be a more-than-welcome addition to any collection. Of the 44 examples of this card currently in the Beckett population report, only three cards are graded at this tier, with none graded higher. Population report information is accurate up to the time in which a lot is posted for auction and is subject to change. The card's BGS condition report: Centering: 9, Corners: 10, Edges: 9.5, Surface: 9.5. Gem Mint condition.
