Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr’s 1998 season was when the Ironman decided to end the consecutive games’ streak as it came to an end when he sat out the September 20th home game against the New York Yankees. His amazing run concluded at 2,632 consecutive games played, a record that will never be broken. Ripken still put up solid numbers in 1998 (14 home runs, 61 RBI and a .271 batting average) and he wore this gray button-down Baltimore Orioles road jersey during the 1998 season. This knit material jersey was manufactured by Russell Athletic and features “Orioles” in script along with a paraph sewn on across the chest in orange, black and white tackle twill and Ripken’s number “8” is sewn on in orange and black tackle twill on the left center chest. The Russell Athletic size 48 and “1998” tags, along with a “2” EXTRA LENGTH” and “100% POLYESTER” flags are sewn on the bottom front left tail. There is Velcro on the inside of the jersey between the second and third buttons. The back of the jersey has “RIPKEN” sewn on in orange and black tackle twill on a matching gray nameplate, which is above his number “8” that is sewn on in orange and black tackle twill. Both sleeves have black piping an inch off the ends with the left sleeve having the Orioles bird logo patch and the right sleeve having the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in black. Ripken has signed his name in black marker on the front of the jersey on the center right below the paraph. This jersey displays moderate game use with some jersey puckering and loose threads on the some of the letters and numbers. This jersey comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this jersey.
