As expected, the offense was plentiful for both the American League and National League at the 69th All-Star Game held at Denver’s Coors Field in the high altitude of Colorado on July 7th, 1998. The two teams combined for 31 hits as the Junior Circuit won 13-8 with Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar of the Baltimore Orioles earning MVP honors.

Another Hall of Famer who had a good showing at the 1998 Mid-Summer Classic was Atlanta’s Greg Maddux, who started the game for the National League and held the American League in check for his two innings of work to start the game. Maddux did not allow a run, surrendering only 3 hits and striking out Alex Rodriguez to thwart a potential first-inning rally.
