Then-Florida Marlins manager Jim Leyland wore this green nylon batting practice jersey before the 1998 All-Star Game, held at Coors Field in Denver. As manager of the previous season’s World Series winning team, Leyland was given the reins of the NL All-Star team. The American League defeated the National League 13-8 in the highest scoring All-Star Game in history.
This jersey is green nylon, and features “NATIONAL” sewn across the chest in white, purple, and silver tackle twill. The second “a” is stylized as a purple, black, gray, and white mountain. Purple piping adorns the chest, as well as the collar and sleeve openings. A circular Marlins logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve, while a ’98 ASG patch is sewn on the right. A Majestic tag with an attached size “44” flag is sewn on the front left tail. “LEYLAND” and “11” are sewn on the back of the jersey in white and purple tackle twill. Leyland signed the first “1” in blue marker, adding the inscription “All Star Game BP Jersey 1998” to the second “1”. This item shows light game use consistent with managing. A COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C03612) covers the signature, while a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema authenticates game use.
