In a season of historic records set or broken by the 1998 New York Yankees, perhaps none was as exciting as the three grand slams hit by Shane Spencer, setting the bar for Major League rookies. The team nicknamed the rookie outfielder “Roy Hobbs” because of his “old age” of 26 and the home runs that peeled off his bat during the summer of 1998. Spencer’s 1998 Rawlings 456A model bat offered here shows heavy use and has a handle crack. The barrel has many ball marks with ink transfer and abrasions from storage with other equipment. The handle has a heavy coat of pine tar and Spencer’s number “21” is on the knob in black marker. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15676), who have graded this bat a solid GU 8 for the game use.
