Alfonso Soriano’s route to the Big Leagues was a bit out of the ordinary. The native of the Dominican Republic began his professional career in Japan in 1996 where he starred for the Hiroshima Carp. This got the Yankees interested, and he made a big impression during the 1999 Futures Game where he was voted the game MVP after hitting a pair of home runs. Soriano was a late September call-up to New York that summer, and his first at-bat hit a game winning home run. This Louisville Slugger C243 model bat dates from his first year in the Majors and displays outstanding use and is un-cracked. The barrel has the remains of an adhesive tape ring used to indicate batting practice use and Soriano’s number “53” has been written on the knob in black marker. Soriano has signed the barrel in black marker. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B10888) for the game use and his signature has been pre-certified by Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
