New York Yankees pitcher Orlando Hernandez wore this hat during the 2001 season, when the Yankees came within one game of winning the World Series. During the regular season, the Yanks claimed yet another division title, finishing 13.5 games above the Red Sox as Hernandez compiled a 4-7 record. “El Duque” turned it on in the postseason, however, throwing an absolute gem in Game 4 of the World Series, which the Yankees won 4-3 in 10 innings.
This hat is navy blue, with the Yankees interlocking “NY” logo sewn on the front in white. A MLB logo is sewn on the back of the size 67/8ths cap. Hernandez signed the underside of the brim, adding a lengthy inscription in Spanish that reads “Para Miriam Carrera / De Orlando Hernandez / Con Mucho Amor y Cariño”. In English, this reads “To Miriam Carrera / From Orlando Hernandez / With Much Love and Affection”. He signed and inscribed the hat in black pen.
