Sitting below .500 on May 11th, the Marlins fired manager Jeff Torborg and replaced him with Jack McKeon, who promptly guided the Marlins to a National League Wild Card berth and run to the World Series title. McKeon would become the oldest manager to ever win a World Series, at the age of 72, when they knocked off the heavily favored New York Yankees in six games.
