The Boston Red Sox and “Big Papi” David Ortiz were hitting on all cylinders by the time the 2004 World Series arrived, sweeping the Anaheim Angels in the ALDS and then staging the greatest comeback in post-season history after losing the first three games of the ALCS to the New York Yankees; winning the World Series seemed like a foregone conclusion. Ortiz hit .545 with a home run and 4 RBI against Anaheim and .387 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI versus New York. Ortiz used this C243 model Louisville Slugger during the Red Sox four game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston’s first World Series since Babe Ruth was on the team in 1918. “Big Papi” hit .308 in the Series, going 4-13, including a three-run homer in the first inning of Game One. This special issue World Series bat with Ortiz name and 2004 World Series silver block-letter barrel engraving, displays moderate use with a smattering of ball marks, stitch impressions and Official World-Series-ball gold ink transfers on the back barrel and a few cleat marks. A small amount of pine tar has been applied to the handle and the knob and lower handle are wrapped in spiral black adhesive tape. Ortiz signed the bat enthusiastically in bright silver Sharpie between the Louisville Slugger label and barrel branding with a “Reverse the Curse 04 WS Champs 04 Game Used” inscription and added his number “34.” Contains dual PSA/DNA authentication stickers for the bat (#1B05295) and signature (#U69452) affixed to the barrel and comes with full PSA/DNA letter of authenticity and GU 8.5 grading.
