On June 27, 2004 against the New York Mets, Gary Sheffield clubbed a Steve Trachsel pitch into the stands for his 12th home run of the season. Two days later, Sheffield hit a 3-run home run off of Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe for his 13th home run of the season. It was the 391st and 392nd of his eventual 509 career homers and this is the very bat he used to hit it.
This Original Maple Company GS11NY model bat shows moderate use and is un-cracked. The handle has been white overlapping tape and a thick knob to enhance the grip and is covered with black residue. The bat shows excellent use with ball marks, cleat marks and bat rack imprints. The bat specifications have been hand written in blue marker on the barrel end, length (34.5), weight (31.6 oz), date of manufacture (05 10 04) and model number (GS-1). Sheffield has signed the barrel in blue marker and added "6/27/04 vs Mets #12 HR Career HR #391 pitcher Trachsel 6/29/04 vs Boston #13 career HR #392 pitcher Lowe 3 RUN SHOT". This bat comes with a full LOA from Gary Sheffield, authenticating this bat’s use to the two specific career home runs.
