Prior to their Cinderella season, the Rays were officially known as the Devil Rays and they had a devil of a time finding any success. Perennial cellar dwellers from 1998 to 2007, their only glimmer of hope came in 2004 with a 4th-place finish and a 70-91 record. But 2008 brought a reversal of fortunate as Manager Joe Maddon memorably led his rag-tag bunch to the World Series with dramatic ALDS and ALCS wins over the White Sox and Red Sox.
