This lot is part of the Jackie Robinson 71st Anniversary Auction to benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation

David Ortiz's clutch hitting and 23 home runs helped the 2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox make the post season again in 2008, winning the ALDS against the Los Angeles Angels in four games before falling to the Tampa Bay Rays in a hard-fought seven-game ALCS. Ortiz’s 23 home runs came in only 109 games and the Red Sox icon drove in 89.

Ortiz used this Rawlings 456B model bat during the 2008 season. This bat displays oustanding game use and is un-cracked. As would be expected from the caliber of hitting possessed by Ortiz, this barrel is covered with ball marks, stitch impressions, white leather scuffs, cleat imprints and blue ink transfers. There is checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact and there is a light coating of pine tar on the upper handle/lower barrel and a small coating of Mota Stick is on the handle. Ortiz’s number “34” is hand written in black marker on the knob and stamped on the knob is the bat’s model number “456B”. This is a terrific gamer from one of the best clutch hitters of all-time and it comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15697) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5. Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium. Goldin Auctions will be donating 10% of the winning bid price to The Jackie Robinson Foundation.
