NFL linebacker Malcolm Smith wore this Schutt USC Trojans helmet during his sophomore season with the school. USC finished the 2008 season with a 12-1 record and defeated Penn State in the 2009 Rose Bowl. This helmet is burgundy with the USC Trojan logo decal affixed to both sides. A white decal with “USC” is in red is affixed to the padded facemask bracket holder on the front. The facemask is gray and the Riddell hard plastic and padded chinstrap is still intact. There is a piece of white athletic tape on the front right of the helmet that has handwritten “MALCOLM SMITH 2009” in black marker. A reconditioning certification sticker that reads “2009” is on the inner shell, along with the USC team bar code sticker. The back of the helmet has an American Flag decal on the right and a yellow “STA FIGHT ON 13” decal for Stafon Johnson, who was severely injured in a weight room accident in late September of 2009. The helmet displays solid game use with gauge marks and other abrasions, along with soiling on the inner padding. Smith has signed his name in gold marker on the top of the helmet and inscribed “#6” and “To my friend Bob Fight On!”. This helmet comes with LOAs from RGU and PM&G for the use and a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature. Please note that RGU has indicated in their LOA that this helmet was “most likely worn during the 2008 NCAA football season and then prepared to be worn during the 2009 football season” based on images of Smith wearing this style helmet that season.
