Perhaps no other player personifies the winning attitude of the turn-of-the-21st Century Yankees than their captain, Derek Jeter. Covering shortstop since 1995, Jeter has been the organization’s leader in the clubhouse as well as on the diamond where his clutch hitting and fielding has propelled him to the pantheon of Yankee heroes. 2009, the season these cleats date from, was no different. Batting lead off for the first time, Jeter responded by batting .334, good enough for 3rd best in the AL. He was 2nd in the league with 212 hits, and slugged 18 home runs. At age 35 he showed no sign of slowing down: in 35 tries he stole 30 bases and at shortstop his .986 fielding percentage was a career best as he led the Yanks to victory in the World Series, his fifth world championship. Sports Illustrated named him “Sportsman of the Year” for 2009, won both the Roberto Clemente and Hank Aaron Awards and these are the cleats he wore along the way. Jeter’s pair of game used Nike cleats show actual game use with scuffing on the toes and traces of dirt from the field. Jeter’s Nikes have his custom “JETER” crest logo on each tongue in metallic relief. Certificate of Authenticity from Steiner Sports Memorabilia.
