Did anyone really believe that the greatest franchise in baseball history would somehow not christen its brand-new Yankee Stadium with a world championship? It was of course the Bronx Bombers' unparalleled 27th World Series victory and it came at the expense of the then-reigning champion Phillies. Hideki Matsui captured W.S. MVP honors for his astronomical .615 average, 3 HRs and 8 RBIs, while Derek Jeter batted a not-too-shabby .407 with a trio of doubles.
This Balfour 14K-gold, size 9 ring belonged to well known Yankee staffer Ray Negron, who was hired by George Steinbrenner personally after being caught writing graffitti on Yankee stadium walls. The glittering showpiece features an array of diamonds with Yankee Stadium II depicted in raised-relief on the shank and then again in a commemorative "Inaugural Season" imprint inside the band. NM condition. Accompanied by: 1) The "NY WORLD CHAMPIONS 2009" embossed wooden presentation box (2-3/4" x 2-3/4" x 2-1/4", EX exterior, VG interior); and 2) The consignor's signed 2/29/16 LOA, reading, "I hereby certify that this New York Yankees World Series Ring was awarded to me by the Yankees Organization .... This is the original ring that was presented to me and no duplicates have been made. It is free of any liens and/or claims and it has been in a part of my personal, private collection."
