The 2009 season was the last of head coach Bobby Bowden’s illustrious career, 34 years of which were spent at Florida State. The Seminoles finished with a record of 7 wins and 6 losses for the 2009 season, capped by a 33-21 victory over West Virginia in the Gator Bowl, played January 1, 2010. For the season, QB Christian Ponder completed 68.8% of his passes for 2,717 yards and 14 touchdowns; RB Jermaine Thomas rushed for 832 yards (with a 5.1 average per rush) and 9 TDs.
Featured here is a Jostens 2010 Florida State Gator Bowl player ring that was presented to Nigel Carr, a linebacker who recorded 26 total tackles during the 2009 season. To honor Bowden, the ring is centered by an image of the legendary coach, surrounded by CZs. “SEMINOLES FOOTBALL” appears in relief lettering. One shank of the ring lists Bowden’s many accomplishments – 389 wins, 18 ten-win seasons, 29 straight bowls and leading national championship teams in 1993 and 1999. Carr’s name and number 12 are displayed on the opposite shank, along with the Gator Bowl logo. Engraved inside the band is “Nigel Carr 2010” and it also shows the Jostens mark and “YLTM” (Yellow Lustrium). The size of this ring is approximately 11 and it weighs an approximate 33.8 grams.
