The “Holy War” pits the only two Catholic universities competing at the FBS level – Notre Dame and Boston College. The schools began competing in 1975 and have played several memorable games, including Boston College’s dramatic last second field goal in 1993 to defeat the Irish for the first time and knock Notre Dame from National Championship contention.
Offered is this full-sized Riddell game helmet worn during the 2015 “Shamrock Series” game at Fenway Park in Boston where Notre Dame wore all-green uniforms for their neutral site game against Boston College on November 22nd, 2015. The Irish overcame five turnovers to hold off BC 19-16, moving their record to 10-1. This gold helmet features the Notre Dame Leprechaun on each side of the helmet and a navy blue and green stripe down the center of the helmet. The face mask is dual-colored as the left side is painted navy blue and the right side painted green. “IRISH” is in green on a navy blue backing on the center of the helmet above the face mask. On the back of the helmet are American Flag and NCAA stickers, along with a black circular sticker that reads “Fr. Ted” in memory of Reverend Theodore M. Hesburgh, president emeritus and Notre Dame’s president from 1952-1987, who passed away in February of 2015. The helmet’s inner padding is still intact and the number “80” is handwritten in black marker just below the inner ear hole. This is a great piece of Notre Dame history.
