After winning back-to-back World Series in 1907 and 1908, the Chicago Cubs were forced to endure a 108 season stretch without a title, until the magical 2016 Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in a classic World Series. Down three games to one, the Cubs rallied time and time again to force a deciding seventh game. Game 7 took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, and began with a leadoff home run by Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler. The tension in this game only escalated, and with the game tied at 6-6 after the ninth inning a rainstorm caused a 17-minute delay. After play resumed, the Cubs came out swinging, scoring two runs in the top of the 10th to bring the score to 8-6. Although the Indians cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning it was not enough, as Cubs reliever Mike Montgomery forced Indians batter Michael Martinez into a game ending groundout. With that, the Cubs finally brought a championship back to the North Side.
