The 2016 NBA All-Star Game held in at the Air Canada Centre on February 14th was the first time in league history to be held outside of the United States. The 2016 midseason classic was the 18th and final appearance for NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who announced his retirement at the end of the 2016 season. Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook became the first African American in NBA history to win back-to-back All-Star MVP Awards when he scored a Western Conference-high 31 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals during the West’s 196-173 victory over the Eastern Conference. The 369 total points broke the previous year’s record by 48, and both sides exceeding the prior record of 163 for both teams.
