Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer this Chandler CB318 model bat during the 2017 MLB season. Scherzer won his second-straight Cy Young Award in 2017, starting 31 games and posting a 16-6 record and had the lowest full-season ERA of his career (2.51) and struck out a National League-high 268 batters in 200.2 innings. This bat displays heavy game use and has a crack on the handle. There are ball marks and ink transfers present on the barrel. The lower handle has red and blue Lizard Skins tape to enhance the grip and Scherzer’s number “31” is on the knob in a Washington Nationals Schutt sticker. According to our consignor, the bat was given directly to a father and son, who in 2019 were employees of the Nationals organization. Scherzer gave the bat to the family members on June 19, 2019 after his shutout pitching performance the day after he broke his nose on June 18, 2019 (see video below showing the same style, but not the same bat offered here). This particular pitching performance is referred to as one of the top performances of Max's career. Not only is from the time period during his epic Nationals 2019 World Series year, he also pitched lights - throwing 7 scoreless innings with a broken nose and a black eye. So, while the bat may have been manufactured in 2017, it’s likely that this offered bat was carried over to 2019, especially given the limited amount of at-bats pitchers have compared to their everyday player counterparts. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B19189) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.
