Each season of La Liga Santander begins with a matchup between the previous season’s league champion and the winner of the previous season’s Copa Del Rey competition in the Spanish Super Cup. In 2017-18, Barcelona claimed both titles, setting up a matchup between the blaugrana and Copa Del Rey runners up Sevilla at Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier, Morocco. Sevilla opened the scoring through a ninth minute Pablo Sarabia strike, holding their slim lead until Barcelona legend Gerard Pique equalized after pouncing on a well-timed rebound of a Lionel Messi free kick just before the half. Ousmane Dembele struck gold in the 78th minute with a fizzing rocket of a shot that smashed off the crossbar and beat Sevilla goalkeeper Tomás Vaclík to put Barcelona up 2-1. Sevilla had a chance to equalize late, but the Catalonian’s German shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved a poor Wissam Ben Yedder penalty to clinch Barca’s 13th Super Cup title.
Offered here is a gold medal from the historic 2018 Spanish Super Cup. This medal measures approximately 2.5 inches in diameter. One side is etched with a high relief depiction of the Spanish Super Cup logo, while the other side is etched with a high relief RFEF logo. “Temp. 2017-2018” is etched on a small raised plaque below the RFEF logo. This medal is attached to a red and yellow Supercopa de España ribbon. This item is in great condition and comes in the original RFEF bag.
