Abraham Lincoln will forever be numbered among the select few men to be considered the greatest Presidents in the history of the United States. Lincoln served during the most desperate times in our country's history, and he demonstrated wisdom and courage in the face of dire national events. His legacy is one of integrity, intelligence and compassion. Add the circumstance of martyrdom to that list, and the demand by collectors for artifacts of any kind that claim a direct relationship to Lincoln's heritage is easily understood. Offered here is a unique relic that directly links us to the personage of the great emancipator. Encapsulated below a portrait of the Lincoln are several strains of Lincoln’s hair. As per the accompanying certification, these strains of hair came from locks collected by Mrs. Caroline Wright, the wife of Indiana Governor Joseph A. Wright. Mrs. Wright collected hair of political figures during the latter half of the 19th Century and these strains were given to her after Lincoln’s inauguration in 1865 as a token of friendship between the Wrights and the Lincolns. These relics passed through the Wright family until sold with other items at Christie’s auction house in 1992. In 2002, they were sold again by Christie’s as part of the Forbes Collection. Comes with letter of authenticity from University Archives
