Offered is one of the most highly desirable signed baseball books, a first edition of the 1948 “The Babe Ruth Story”, signed by its subject, Babe Ruth. When Ruth was in the final months of his life, he was besieged by autograph requests, but due to his declining health, was usually unable to fulfill those requests. However, when Ruth’s autobiography (“as told to Bob Considine”) was finished and ready for publication, Ruth signed a small amount of copies as Ruth knew this was the story of his life to be read by many millions of young fans. These signed examples are highly prized by collectors as they are some of the final signatures Ruth ever penned.

This First Edition example exhibits a bold “Babe Ruth” signature on the flyleaf just under the title. Above the title is a handwritten “To Neil from Scotty” indicating the lucky initial recipient of this wonderful gift. The book itself is in good condition with some spine looseness, a small tear on the spine edge and several cover dings. There is also a small hole near the top left corner of the signed flyleaf and is without the original dust jacket. While the book is collector grade, the signature is investment grade and could be a perfect (“10”).
