After the New York Yankees refused to give him the manager spot he so desired, Babe Ruth left the Yankees and the American League in 1935 and signed with the Boston Braves. Ruth was given the false impression that he would eventually be given the reigns of the Braves, but after less than two months he came to realize that this was not to be. This, coupled with his rapidly diminishing skills with the bat, convinced The Babe to call it a career at the end of May. This abbreviated final season makes this Ruth single-signed ball all the more interesting, as the ball is a Spalding Official National League ball of the style used only during 1935 - The Babe’s final season in the Majors. Ruth’s signature is located in his customary place – right on the sweet spot, in strong black fountain pen. The ball shows slight mottling from age and has been coated with shellac. Like the signature, the stamping on the ball is bold and dark, making this a very attractive signed piece from The Babe’s final months in the Majors. The ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (V05694) for the signature.
