In an era of tough ball players, Brooklyn’s Burleigh Grimes was one of the toughest. The rough and tumble spitballer was one of the National League’s premier pitchers during the 1920’s, twice leading the league in wins. A five-time 20 game winner, Grimes refused to shave before his starts, his dark stubble making him an imposing figure on the mound. “Old Stubble Beard” has signed the sweet spot of this Rawlings Official National League Feeney ball in blue ball point. The ball has some light toning from age and Burleigh’s signature is strong against the cream colored leather. A great single signed ball from one of the National League’s toughest pitchers. This item has been pre-certified by Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature and a prior JSA Auction Letter.
