This incredible piece of baseball history documents in real time the end of Cal Ripken, Jr.’s consecutive game streak. While this two-sided card shows the New York Yankees lineup and roster for the September 20, 1998 game at Camden Yards, it is the Orioles card that is most significant. Midway down the O’s lineup you can see where manager Ray Miller wrote “Ripken” as had been the custom for the previous 2,626 games. However, shortly before game time, Cal asked to be taken out of the lineup, and rookie Ryan Minor’s name was hurriedly added beside Ripken’s crossed out name. This 9 ½ x 4 ¾-inch card show good edge wear and light toning throughout. One of the more poignant items surrounding the end of Cal’s streak. This lineup card comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use.
