This sublime image of the legendary Christy Mathewson exhibits the skill of sports photographer Charles M. Conlon. The young hurler is captured in a throwing pose on an ideal day at the ballpark; his features – and the flavor of the scene’s atmosphere – come through marvelously as a result of Conlon’s talent. This 6-1/2” x 8-1/2” survivor carries numerous back-stampings attributable to news bureau company Underwood & Underwood as well as handwritten editorial notations. Typical evidence of newsroom usage comes in the form of light waviness at the edges and moderate corner wear, technical discrepancies that in no way impede the piece's dramatic visual appearance and historical significance. LOA from PSA DNA (#1PO2128).
