Muhammad Ali wore these Everlast boxing trunks while training for his historic fight against George Foreman in 1974. The fight, held in Kinshasa, Zaire, was one of the most memorable bouts in boxing history. Known as “The Rumble in the Jungle”, Ali used his now famous “rope-a-dope” strategy to tire out the younger Foreman, letting Foreman punch himself out and lose efficacy with each punch. Ali toppled Foreman in the eighth round; countering one of Foreman’s crushing blows with a lightning-quick five punch combination that ended with Foreman on the mat.
These Everlast shorts are white, with black trim and were used by Ali in preparation for the “Rumble in the Jungle” bout. An Everlast tag, with the epitaph “Made Expressly for Muhammad Ali”, is sewn front and center on the waistband. These trunks show good evidence of use, and are accompanied by LOAs from noted boxing expert Craig Hamilton and WBC (MP44959).
