Presented here is a Chicago Bears replica helmet signed by a pair of Hall of Fame teammates, Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers. Butkus, a middle linebacker, and Sayers, a running back, both debuted with the Bears in 1965 after being selected with the third and fourth overall picks in the 1965 NFL Draft. Although Sayers retired after the 1971 season, and Butkus after 1973, both players made indelible marks on the NFL. Sayers was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977, and Butkus joined his former teammate in the Hall in 1979. On October 31st, 1994, Butkus and Sayers both had their numbers retired by the Bears during a halftime ceremony. Sayers signed the left side of the crown of this helmet, inscribing “HOF 77” beneath his name. Butkus signed the right side, inscribing “HOF 79” underneath his signature. Both signatures have been written in silver marker. This item comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (AD28268).
