This lot is part of the Jackie Robinson 71st Anniversary Auction to benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation

Former pitcher Ewell Blackwell was known as “The Whip” for his 6’6” frame and side arm delivery. “The Whip” appeared in six-straight All-Star Games from 1946 through 1951 and was the winning pitcher in the 1950 All-Star Game after he induced Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio’s game-ending double-play in the 14th inning. Blackwell nearly pulled off back-to-back no-hitters in 1950 as well as he no-hit the Brooklyn Dodgers on June 22nd and only a ninth-inning hit by Eddie Stanky prevented him from matching teammate Johnny Vander Meer from nine years prior. Blackwell has signed his name in bold blue pen across the sweet spot of this Official National League A. Bartlett Giamatti baseball. The ball is in excellent condition with only the slightest toning being displayed. This signed baseball comes with a COA from Finest Sports Collectibles (026614). Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium. Goldin Auctions will be donating 10% of the winning bid price to The Jackie Robinson Foundation.
