This National League of Professional Baseball Clubs Uniform Employee’s (sic) Contract is an original copy submitted by the Cincinnati Reds to Peter Edward Rose in the amount of $1,000,000 for the 1989 ($500,000) and 1990 ($500,000) seasons. The two-page contract with three-page Addendum is un-signed by Rose or any member of the Cincinnati Reds organization and also contains an unsigned letter addressed to Rose’s attorney Reuven Katz stating: “Dear Reuven: Enclosed you will find Pete Rose’s contract along with the Addendum as amended by yourself and agreed to by us. Trust everything is in order. Would you please have Pete date and sign accordingly and return two copies to this office in order that we can send them through for promulgation. Thanks for all your help with this matter. Sincerely P.S. Don’t think that this will cause our efforts on November 9 to be any less in our endeavor to dethrone you as Eastern Hills Doubles Champ. JP attach. Rose did not make it through the duration of the contract as he voluntarily accepted to be placed on baseball’s permanently ineligible list on August 24, 1989 for being in violation of Rule 21 MISCONDUCT (d) BETTING ON BALL GAMES, “Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.”
