Author J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was released to critical and commercial acclaim when it debuted on June 26th, 1997. The story of the young wizard during his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry captured the heart and souls of millions worldwide as the magical coming-of-age fantasy featuring Harry Potter and his friends Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley and their struggle against the evil Lord Voldemort. The title was changed by the Scholastic Corporation in America to “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” when it was released in the United States in 1998. The book topped the New York Times Best-Seller list in 1999 and stayed there for the majority of 1999-2000. The book was the first in a series of seven best-selling children’s books that spawned a popular movie franchise.
Presented here is a first edition of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling. The hard cover book features an illustration of the young wizard set against the backdrop of a train station and is labeled “HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE” on the top of the cover. The book features some creasing on the front cover, some marks and indentations on the back cover, and some fading on the borders. This first-edition Harry Potter book is a perfect addition to any serious Harry Potter collectors and was the first in a series of books that would launch 7 combined titles and 8 major motion pictures.
Update: Of note, the first-edition hard cover is one of just 500 that were printed with 300 going to libraries, as described by popular rare book experts at Abe Books.
