The Bronx Zoo that was the New York Yankees in the 1980s resulted from the competitive fires burning in owner George Steinbrenner and his often hired-and-fired manager Billy Martin. This tandem set the baseball world on edge – every season. This combined item includes an OAL Rawlings baseball, with evidence of game use, signed in black ink by Martin and brown ink by Steinbrenner. The ball is stamped with Lee MacPhail’s signature as AL president and is stained by grass and clay, not affecting the signatures, and otherwise intact. The baseball signatures come with a full PSA/DNA letter # T05519. The Yankee letter is typed on team letterhead, adorned with a red-and-blue Yankees top hat-and-bat logo. It as a pitch by Steinbrenner to prospective season-ticket purchasers and signed “George.” This signature is attributed to his secretary. The letter notes that the team has acquired Steve Kemp, Don Baylor and Bob Shirley in the offseason and opines “I think it’s safe to say the ’83 Yankees won’t be dull.” The stationary is horizontally folded twice and shows little signs of age and no wear and tear.
