Bush would go on to ascend to the presidency himself, running as the Republican nominee during a hotly contested 2000 Presidential election where George W. Bush narrowly defeated Democrat Al Gore via intervention from the Supreme Court. George W. Bush would serve two terms as President where he guided a wounded nation through the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Pentagon, World Trade Center, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
