Thomas Jefferson signed Act of Congress as Secretary of State March 3, 1791. A historically significant act demonstrating a tax provision in the very first Congress of The United States of America! "CHAP. XXIV.—An Act to continue in force the act therein mentioned, and to make further provision for the payment of Pensions to Invalids, and for the support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and public piers." fascinating Act that shows in the very first Congress (1789-1791) that the government was helping the disabled, as well as setting aside money for public works (lighthouses, beacons, buoys and public piers). Thomas Jefferson is credited with writing the Declaration of Independence , Was a Virginia governor during the Revolutionary War, our nation's first Secretary of State, Vice President under John Adams, and the third U.S. President. His greatest achievement as President was the Louisiana Purchase which more than doubled the size of the US. He is enshrined as one of America's greatest and most important leaders on Mount Rushmore. He died July 4, 1826. As Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson signed only two copies of each act, individually printed on large paper, for distribution to every state. Thus, it is likely that only twenty six copies were signed by Jefferson, with very few surviving. Those that did are in museums , and we would estimate none are quite so bold as this. Bold Signature by Thomas Jefferson Signed at the conclusion of the Act as Secretary of State, with typed signatures of George Washington and John Adams. Three vertical fold lines with a separation along the center fold visible only upon close inspection. Professionally double cloth matted and framed with a portrait of Jefferson and a small plaque to an overall size of 22 x 23". PSA/DNA LOA. Multiple images and LOAs available at goldinauctions.com.
