Under the able management of Joe McCarthy, the Yanks stormed to the pennant behind the awesome combination of Ruth, Gehrig and Pennock representing the old guard and young Turks Ben Chapman, Lefty Gomez and Frank Crosetti. This volatile mix of old and young proved lethal to the Chicago Cubs whom the Yanks swept in 4 games, the series forever remembered for one of baseball’s greatest moments, Ruth’s called shot.

31 members of the 1932 World Champion New York Yankees have signed their names in black pen on this Official American League William Harridge baseball. Ruth signed his name on the sweet spot, with Gehrig signing his name on the traditional adjacent panel. Other signatures include Joe McCarthy, Bill Dickey, Joe Sewell (signed twice), Red Ruffing (signed “Chas. Ruffing), Herb Pennock, Earle Combs, Frank Crosetti, Dusty Cooke, Art Fletcher, Johnny Murphy, Myril Hoag, Sam Byrd, Ben Chapman, John Allen, Art Jorgens, Ed Wells (signed twice), Ivy Andrews, Lefty Weinert, Cy Perkins, George Pipgras, Eddie Farrell and others.
