As the man who shattered baseball’s long-standing color barrier, Jackie Robinson continues to be one of the most popular subjects for sports artists. In this acrylic painting by the artist identified only as “T.P.”, Robinson is captured wearing his Dodgers home whites, his famed number “42” prominently depicted in bright red on his chest. Robinson’s piercing glare is perfectly rendered beneath his Brooklyn cap, the whole portrait set off by the mottled aqua background. The painting’s medium is acrylic and it has been mounted on a 23 5/8” x 35 1/2” stretcher. The artist “T.P” has signed the lower right front in white paint. There is some light surface scuffing, none of which takes away from this talented depiction of the man who broke baseball’s color barrier.
