During James Toney's impressive career, he racked up numerous title belts in various weight classes and with a host of world sanctioning bodies. One such organization is the IBA, the International Boxing Association, whose Heavyweight Championship title belt issued to Toney is featured in this lot. The IBA traces its roots back nearly twenty years, with George Foreman once holding this same heavyweight title back in 1996. The black leather belt with brown fur lining on the back and IBA company logo plate on the front, features no blemishes of note, and would display marvelously in any collection. A smaller logo plate is at one end, reading “IBA, Dean Chance, President” and comes signed by James Toney. He has autographed it James 'Lights-Out' Toney at one end, and 12x champ at the other. Note: Although remembered by Toney as being won with his second meeting with Hasim Rahman in July, 2008, it was not until his next bout with Fres Oquendo in December of that same year did he win this belt as listed in official records. Since no subsequent title defenses of the IBA heavyweight championship have taken place since this bout, one could make an argument that this is the current IBA Heavyweight Championship belt.
