Janis Joplin known as, “The Queen of Psychedelic Soul,” is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter who is best known for her hits, “Piece of My Heart,” and the classic number one hit, “Me and Bobby McGee.” Joplin with her husky, soulful, and blues influenced voice was a major recording artist and performer during the counter culture heyday of the 1960’s. She reached such heights as performing at the original Woodstock Music Festival and also at the Monterey Pop Festival. This 1960 Yellow Jacket High School Yearbook features a portrait of Joplin in her cap and gown on the bottom left hand corner of p. 223. Joplin can also be seen on page 16 on the bottom left hand corner as well, surrounded by her classmates. Former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson who won two Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys in the early 1990’s is also featured in this yearbook as well. Jimmy Johnson’s High School photo can be seen on p. 106. He also appears in the upper right corner of p. 108, the photo is captioned, “Jimmy Maxfield takes aim at Jimmy Johnson as the juniors enjoyed the show.” The yearbook shows wear along the binding.
