This photograph features the first two winners of the Heisman Trophy: Jay Berwanger and Larry Kelley.(Note: When Berwanger won the award, it was known as the Downtown Athletic Club Trophy, which was renamed in 1936.) Jay Berwanger was also the first player selected in the inaugural NFL draft of 1936 as he was drafted by the Eagles, but was quickly traded to the Bears due to concerns over his desired salary. Larry Kelley won the Heisman Trophy in 1936 and was an All-American end for Yale before he played for the Boston Shamrocks of the American Football League in 1937. The 8x10 black and white photograph is in excellent condition as both signatures in blue Sharpie are legible and easily noticeable. Below Berwanger’s signature is the inscription of “1935”, while “1936” is below Kelley’s signature. LOA by PSA/DNA #S12986.
