Presented here is a San Francisco 49ers replica helmet signed and inscribed by Joe Montana and Dwight Clark. This helmet commemorates their magical play, known simply as “The Catch”, that sent the 49ers to Super Bowl XVI. With no time left on the clock and the Niners down 27-21, Montana rolled to his right, evading the fearsome Dallas pass rush and floating a pass to receiver Dwight Clark in the back of the end zone. Clark brought the pass down with his fingertips, handing the 49ers an emotional win in a tight NFC Championship Game. Both Montana and Clark have signed this replica helmet in black marker, with Montana inscribing “SB XVI MVP” beneath his signature. Between the two signatures the famous play, “Change Left Slot – Sprint Right Option”, is diagrammed in black marker. Clark inscribed “the Catch That Got SF Into SB XVI – 1.10.82”.
